Saturday Deal: SPINNING SILVER OMG OMG OMG

Spinning Silver, by Naomi Novik

Spinning Silver, by Naomi Novik

AHHHHHHHHHH SOUND THE KLAXONS, NAOMI NOVIK’S SPINNING SILVER IS CURRENTLY ON SALE AND IF I DIDN’T ALREADY OWN IT IN MULTIPLE FORMATS YOU’D BETTER BELIEVE THAT I’D BE BUYING A COPY!!!

For real, if you haven’t read it, it’s so so so so SO great.

It’s a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin, and within the first few pages, Novik makes it clear that she’s going to directly engage with all the problems with the original story. Which, like, SIGN ME UP.

ALSO, it’s romantic and the world-building is top-notch and the various cultures depicted are fully realized and nuanced and rich and the magic is AWESOME and there are so many moving pieces that I still don’t know how Novik did it—reading this book is truly a magical experience.

Two other deals to feed my need for short stories:

The Birds: and Other Stories, by Daphne du Maurier

Toil & Trouble: 15 Tales of Women & Witchcraft, edited by Tess Sharpe and Jessica Spotswood
