Ties between publishing and Hollywood grow even tighter...

From the New York Times:

Publishers and Hollywood producers refer to the arrangement as an “end-in-mind relationship,” where decisions on what is made into a book or pitched as a movie are made long before a book or a script is written.

Huh.  And I thought we'd reached our saturation point for Movie Books*.  Obvs, I'm not asking for authors to shiver in garrets scribbling away with stubs of charcoal, but I do hope this doesn't create a greater influx of crappy books**.

*You know -- the books that make you think, "Oh, MAN.  The author is TOTALLY going for a movie deal here."

**Then again, I read my share of crappy books*** growing up -- the novelization of Total Recall**** for one -- and I turned out just fine.  In my opinion, anyway...

***Speaking of crappy books I read as a tween, I'm considering a re-read of Flowers in the Attic.  Seems like it'd be worth a giggle.

****Nope, no Original Real Thing for the tween me.  I had to have the Piers Anthony version.  *shudder*
