She Persisted: Around the World, by Chelsea Clinton

Like its predecessor, She Persisted: Around the World covers a diverse range of subjects, and I have no doubt that it’ll be hugely popular among my fans of picture book biographies.

Some of the women covered here—like Malala Yousafzai and Joanne Rowling and Marie Curie—show up again and again in these sorts of collections, whereas some of the others—like Viola Desmond and Mary Verghese and Aisha Rateb—were new to me. And that’s always a treat.

That said.

IF YOU’RE GOING TO WRITE NONFICTION PICTURE BOOKS—ESPECIALLY NONFICTION PICTURE BOOKS THAT INCLUDE DIRECT QUOTES—PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE INCLUDE A LIST OF SOURCES. For one thing, that shows me that you’re not just winging it & pulling information out of the ether; for another, that helps readers who might be using this book as a jumping-off point for further research.
