Eagle scouts have started to return their medals to the BSA in protest of the recent decision to continue the ban on GBLT scout leaders.
Today I am returning my Eagle Scout medal because I do not want to be associated with the bigotry for which it now stands. I hope that one day BSA stands up for all boys. It saddens me that until that day comes any sons of mine will not participate in the Boy Scouts.
A lot of the guys in my high school class participated in the Boy Scouts, and I saw some of them put in hours and hours of time, loads of effort, and prove some serious dedication in order to earn their Eagle.
So for these men to give their medal is no empty gesture: it's a huge, huge deal.
Thus, the goosebumps.
