House of Night: Legacy, #1 -- P.C. Cast, Kristen Cast, Kent Dalian, Joelle Jones, Karl Kerschl

House of Night 1

Zoey Redbird is a weirdo among weirdos. She's the only vampyre fledgling whose Marks (magical face tattoos, basically) have already filled in, the only fledgling in known history with an affinity for all five elements, and she's just been made the leader of the Dark Daughters... much to the chagrin of her über-bitch classmate, Aphrodite.

Hesitant to take over leadership, Zoey contacts the Goddess Nyx to ask for guidance...

Artwork?

HOLY COW THEIR SKIRTS ARE SHORT.

Storyline?

Well, as adaptations go, it's faithful. Meaning...

  • OH MY GOD THE INFODUMPING.
  • Zoe still has a terrible vocabulary: SHE HAD TO GOOGLE 'AFFINITY'.
  • Her friends are much the same, in that they are all defined by one characteristic: Stevie Rae is sweet, Damien is gay (and smart!), and the other two are so interchangeable that I can't remember their names.

In addition to the ridiculousity that is to be expected with anything House of Night-related, this issue includes a lengthy, boring—and completely unnecessary—re-telling of the story of a Norwegian vampire and her founding of a House of Night school. Or... something. I think that was the point.

Keep going?

Um, no. But since I have a review copy of the whole first trade, I might anyway.
